The product / process technologist in mechanics is able to industrialize and guarantee the maintenance of a mechanical production in compliance with the required design quality standards, creating and optimizing the related production processes in terms of machinery, equipment, times and processing sequences.
Main tasks:
- Have a clear understanding of the symbols used in mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings;
- Evaluate the design specifications related to product characteristics;
- Propose product and process design solutions;
- Interpret mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic parts and assemblies also with the use of computer-aided design (CAD) systems;
- Identify the individual processing operations and the relative timing by evaluating the balance of the production phases;
- Define operational methods of quality control of processing in terms of methods, tools and paths;
- Optimization of the production cycle aimed at continuously improving feasible or non- feasible internal activities;
- Evaluate the potential and the limits of the production technologies adopted and available on the market;
- Identify the MU, from traditional to CNC, for the different types of machining to be performed;
- Identify technical tools suitable for individual processes and related modifications to optimize production;
- Define alternatives to the production process based on the products to be made, technologies and processing cycles, in compliance with production programs;
- Establish the optimal layout of the work area also in relation to safety and ergonomics;
Requirements:
- Design principles of the manufacturing cycle and work process;
- Knowledge of main machining processes on machine tools;
- Mechanical removal and deformation machining;
- Disciplinary principles relating to mechanics (mathematics, geometry, physics, etc.);
- Main materials (cast iron, steel, etc.) and related technological characteristics;
- Machine tools from traditional to CNC: component parts and their function, work surface and space in which they operate, management methods / technical integration.
- Main measuring instruments: gauges, micrometers, comparators, etc.
- Information technology applied to MU and CNC;
- Main legislative and regulatory references in the field of technical drawing: signs and symbols, conventions, scales and methods of representation.
- Production planning principles (Gantt type, etc.).
- The relevant company forms: instruction sheets, production programs, quality control sheets, etc.
- Main legislative and regulatory references regarding ISO-9000: 2008 and related applications in the manufacturing-mechanical field.
- Common principles and application aspects of current legislation on safety.
- Advanced knowledge of cutting tools, their function, parameters and applications.
